THE SOUTHWEST
ASSOCIATION OF BUFFALO SOLDIERS (SWABS) attempts to save the HISTORICAL
MOUNTAIN VIEW COLORED OFFICERS CLUB from demolittion.
“Fort Huachuca is the home of the African American soldier
in the United States". The First African American troops
to arrive in Arizona at Fort Huachuca were the Buffalo Soldiers
in the l890’s; the 9th and l0th Cavalries. The Fort Huachuca
Buffalo Soldiers distinguished themselves in the Spanish American
War and the charge up San Juan Hill. They were part of the Punitive
Expedition into Mexico and were sent to Camp Naco, Arizona, Camp
Little in Nogales and other locations in Arizona to guard the
Arizona Borders during the Mexican Revolution. The 24th and 25th
infantry regiments served at Fort Huachuca until WW II..

Save and
restore the MOUNTAIN VIEW COLORED OFFICERS CLUB(MVCOC),
Building 665050, Fort Huachuca, Arizona.

The
only Officers Club built specifically for Black Officers during
World War II…
The
Goal
The goal
is to develop the Mountain View Colored Officers Club Restoration
Project with support from corporate and community leaders, with
an enhanced capital campaign, and preserve the history of the
Buffalo Soldier.
The current stage; the building has been cleaned inside and outside
of all debris and fallen objects. The inside is being cleaned
of all lead paint and the asbestos is in the process of being
expected by the Fort. Within the next 45days, stabilizing the
building is priority, fencing, painting, supplying running water;
electric will be put in action. Wood flooring will be examined
to see what needs to be replaced.
